Here’s my quick take on the baby trend jogger stroller. The price is great. It is easy to push and turn while walking. The sun shade is terrific and it is simple to fold and lock. Two thumbs up.

We got this stroller for our newborn baby boy, and were pretty excited at first. Now, 3 weeks later, we still think its a decent product, but we’ve found that we keep wishing for some extras that are missing.

We don’t have money growing on trees, but extra $200 spent on a better stroller, split over 365 days is just about 55 cents per day. When you put it that way, Pick Dad and Choosy Mom both agree — it would be worth it.

    Pros:
The car seat and stroller are safe and solid. Car seat base is quite convenient. Snapping baby seat in and out of the car base and stroller is a breeze. It simply does everything that a stroller and car seat should do.

    Cons:
    - wheel suspension: The ride is nice and comfortable on smooth surfaces (really well paved sidewalks and inside stores), but is quite bumpy on your average pavement. When we take our dogs for a walk in the park, pushing the stroller on a dirt foot path creates so much shaking, that I feel like I’m breaking my promise I gave to Kaiser Permanente Doctor, that “I won’t shake my baby”. I have to take the car seat out and carry it around, while Choosy Mom plays with our dogs.

    - front wheel assembly: Front wheel “wiggles” quite often when walking at a faster pace, or running. “Wiggling” is best described as what some clunky shopping cart wheels do. By chance, we’ve stumbled on a solution that solves the problem, when we put 2 gallons of milk in the basket below. Ever since that, we put 2-3 clay bricks in the basket to stop the “wiggle”. This was the most annoying problem so far.

    - restraining belts: shoulder belts are so close together that they cut into kid’s neck. Not sure if they can be spaced any wider (due to safety) but at least some belt padding should solve this problem.

Some other “would be nice to see”:
    - we would have loved to see some thicker padding inside the car seat.
    - when folded, the stroller is still very bulky — takes up half of available cargo space in our Volvo SUV.

Don’t let the Volvo reference skew your opinion — it was bought used for half the price of a brand new one.

    Bottom line:
If $199 is your upper limit for a travel system, you will be very happy. If you can afford another $200 — keep looking.

I have seen plenty of mixed reviews about the Baby Trend Jogger Travel System. Many of the negative reviews claimed that this product does not hold up well over the long haul, citing its low price as evidence that it could not be a very reliable stroller after all.
While that might be true, this stroller has worked out PERFECTLY for my wife and me as a second stroller. My family has a summer home on Fire Island, which is off of the South Shore of Long Island, and is only accessible by ferry boat. My wife and I decided, although it would be more expensive, that we would need a second set of many items for our baby boy because we did not want to have to lug too many things back and forth each week; that meant a second crib, play pen, bather, jungle gym, and so on and so forth, but also a second stroller.
We bought the Peg Perego Pliko as our primary stroller, with a matching car seat, that fit into the stroller for when he was an infant. The Peg combined with the car seat ran close to $700! With that kind of investment, we did not want to drag the stroller and car seat out to the beach each weekend, where they could get ruined by the elements and we figured that the stroller might not handle so well on the boardwalks and sandy terrain. We thought that a jogger would be the ideal type of stroller for Fire Island: Light weight, durable, compact, great for an active lifestyle. At first we were set on getting a Baby Jogger, with the “City Mini” being the least expensive and most logical choice. However, knowing that our boy would still be younger than six months all summer long, we knew we needed to be able to use the car seat in the stroller. That presented the problem of having to either a). use an adaptor to put our Peg Perego car seat into the jogger, which we did not want to do for reasons already discussed, or b). buy ANOTHER car seat to go along with the jogger. We reluctantly decided to try using our existing car seat with the Baby Jogger, although that meant that not only might it be harmed in transit and out at the beach, but that we would have to carry it back and forth with us. Besides, we did not want to spend a couple hundred dollars on a car seat that we would really only need for one summer. Also, the adapter that made the Baby Jogger car seat-ready did not look very safe.
Enter the Baby Trend Travel System! My wife spotted it on the floor of the stroller section at Buy Buy Baby. We could not believe that it was so inexpensive AND that it included a car seat! We liked the styling and colors, the cup holders, and little change compartment. The little area underneath the stroller for storing things was even larger than on our Peg Perego! Also, the car seat (which we found out got an extremely high safety rating on its own), snapped into the stroller portion securely and easily. The salesman at Buy Buy Baby admitted that it was a popular stroller although he did not know much about it. When we told him why we needed it: as a second stroller that we would use and leave out at the beach house, he convinced us that we would be crazy to spend $500 on anything else.
The jogger, along with a collection of other items arrived at the house on Fire Island and I frenetically started to assemble everything. I thought the stroller would be difficult (mainly because our Peg was a bit harder to assemble than I thought it should be), so I saved it for last. When I finally got around to putting the stroller together, I was amazed at the ease of assembly. The frame came fully assembled, with the canopies and seating area attached, and all I had to do was unfold the frame and snap in the wheels. Once I snapped the tray table into place, the car seat also snapped right in. The stroller is easy to fold up and to disassemble.
I have heard complaints about the jogger’s handling, particularly that the front wheel wobbles. This has not been my experience and I have brought the stroller over sand, rocks, and boardwalks. The large, mountian bike style tires are ideal for such terrain. Further the stroller has done great having been accidentally left out in the rain, and being in an environment where the sea air is moist, salty, and very tough on metal and fabrics; I had expected the stroller to have shown some rust and fading by now, but that has not been the case at all.
All told, we have had the Baby Trend Jogger Travel System for about two and a half months and have gotten about 30 day’s use out of it. So, I cannot vouch for its quality over a 365 day period, or as a primary stroller. Since our son is our first born, my wife and I had the original mind-set that we would spare no expense in getting the best of everything for him. So, if you are convinced that a more expensive stroller would be a safer, better quality product for everyday use, then I totally understand. However, my wife and I have quickly learned where we might want to splurge and in which areas we are better off saving money when it comes to the baby. My only complaint about the stroller is that the tires were difficult to inflate with a regular bicycle pump and I had to take them down to a local hardware store and use the high-pressure electrical pump in order to inflate the tires.
So, if you are looking for a second stroller or something that you can easily travel with, in the interest of saving wear and tear on your primary stroller, or to save yourself the aggravation of having to carry your primary stroller to and from places, and do not feel like spending too much on a second stroller, the Baby Trend is an EXCELLENT product that deserves consideration, and will probably be durable enough to be a primary stroller as well. My wife and I have been nothing but pleased.

Per a discussion with the company trying to replace the very worn straps. This product is made overseas, they can’t sell you just the straps, and only keep parts for 4-5 years. I feel this product costs too much for it to be unrepairable in 8 years.

I found this to be a perfect jogger stroller. For those of you who aren’t aware but a “real” jogging stroller the front wheel is NOT supposed to swivel. It’s for safety reasons. When your jogging on a street or running trail and you hit a bump or rock in the way and had a swivel wheel you could lose control of the stroller because the swivel wheel would turn in the direction that the rock sent it.

That’s why REAL jogging strollers have a LOCKED FRONT WHEEL, they are designed to stay on track and not turn easily when they hit a bump or rock. Plus when you need to turn it you just pop up the front wheel and it pivots easily.

  • 5 Umfress

This is the worst product I have ever spent money on. The quick release mechanism has never worked properly. I returned it and Baby Trend claimed to have fixed it. However, the issue was not resolved and it is not safe. The seats fold toward each other and my kids lay on each other when riding. It is not a good product and the company is not helpful at all.

I’m surprised people have issues with this stroller. I’ve never had a jogging stroller with a swivel wheel so maybe I don’t know what I’m missing. Also, I have an older version. But, the tires are big making the ride smooth for my little guy (he’s 3 and I’ve had it since he was 11 mos.). And he doesn’t lean at all and I’ve adjusted the seat to lean back and sit up. He sleeps almost every run. I don’t find it hard to turn. I don’t have to lift the front wheel completely unless I’m making a sharp turn. In fact, as I’m jogging around a bend I can just press a little into the turn and it’ll make the turn. My only beef with the stroller is that the sun guard doesn’t always stay open in the wind. Thus the 4 stars instead of 5.

For the price, this jogger stroller is the way to go. Super easy to set up, wonderfully smooth ride, pushes well with one hand, great under carriage storage, large front wheel to provide maximum stability, and best of all, provides a real sunshade. Unlike other joggers that I looked into that only provided a top shade (only works at noon), this jogger stroller has a shade that rotates from above the head to below the chin. So, regardless of the time of day, you little one’s eyes are shaded. It also collapses with a single touch and stores easily in the back my crossover (no need to remove any parts too). I would call this jogger a “real” jogger stroller since the front wheel does NOT swivel…for stability/safety reasons, you cannot have a swiveling front wheel when jogging or running. So, if you are looking to use a “jogger” for the mall or anything that requires frequent turning, don’t go with this stroller. I am a runner, so this one is perfect for us. The trick is to slightly tip the stroller on its back wheels when turning. My only complaint is that the seats can sometimes tilt in toward one another. I finally figured out that this only happens when the fabric gets caught on the back, inner edge of the seat; so, fixing this simply means pushing the fabric off & re-adjusting the seats to sit straight. Overall, however, a great buy!

We live in a third story apartment, so there was no way I was going to haul it up all those stairs every time I used it. So we bought this jogger so we could fit it in the trunk of our Toyota Camry (it just took a little practice). It is really easy to collapse and unfold. I highly recommend getting the infant seat to go with it if you are getting it for a baby. The baby trend one locks in, but we had our Graco car seat before we bought this jogger and it still rests in it great it just doesn’t lock in. We use it mostly for walks outside, but it’s not much bigger then a stroller and has worked pretty good inside so far as well. We love it and have no complaints. In fact every time we use it we discover something else we like about it.

I love this stroller. I got it when my son was about 3 weeks old and he is 8 weeks now. We have been using it a couple times a week since we received it. It has a really smooth ride and the front wheel pivots which makes turning really easy. It folds up really easily and the front wheel comes off so it is easier to load into a car trunk. The seat doesn’t recline flat, but it comes pretty close. Because my son is a newborn, I use a car seat/stroller padded insert; he always seems happy and comfortable. The parent cup holders are too small for my camelbak water bottle, but a standard soda or water bottle fits. I also really like the closing storage compartment in the handle. It is a great place for cell phones, keys, etc.

Overall this is a great stroller. I would buy it again and highly recommend it.

We purchased this stroller last fall. It looks good, and rolls wonderfully across northeast sidewalks, which can be a little rough. It was exactly what we wanted in a stroller for those roughly 2 miles we were able to use it.

This spring when we are ready to use it again, the second walk we take this spring and all of the sudden; the front wheel locks up and is leaning to the side, causing the stroller to not run straight. The fork bearing was shot. I contacted baby trend and the replacement part, while covered under warranty, is on back order. So, I have no stroller for the spring. I even volunteered to drive to Binghamton (40 miles) to return it to Toys R. Us. But the warranty only covers the replacement part, which they don’t have in stock. So, I can suffer and spread the word. Or I can spread the word and buy another stroller and have two.

Sum it up as a nice looking model with nice features, but poorly built. It’s a lot of money, put to far better use. Our similar stroller for the first child was an In Step. Used it 2.5 years and gave it to my sister who used it for 2 more. I’d have to say your money is better spent on a better brand.

Save yourself from the same fate as I.

(Edit to add: Still no response from Baby Trend, and no replacement bearing. I will do my best to keep this updated when/if I receive parts.)

I bought this stroller twice! I was so excited when I bought it because I was really looking forward to having a durable stroller to use while loosing my “baby weight”. After the first walk, the front wheel started wobbling and jerking, it was horrible for me and it was shaking my baby crazily. After trying to fix it I figured it was defective and took it back, I got another one and it did the same exact thing! How crappy for a jogging stroller to have a wobbly front wheel?? How can you jog that way???

  • 12 Donato

Overall a nice stroller but the front wheel wobbles when I jog, even when the wheel is in the locked position. Not what you want in a jogging stroller. This is a known problem because the instructions say that if you experience wobble, tighten a nut over the front wheel. Well, it was already about as tight as you could get it. I tried tightening it more but it made no improvement. Not sure if others have had better luck.

Not my neighbor. He has an older model of the same stroller and it has the same wheel wobble problem.

For walking, it’s a fine stroller. If you’re planning to jog with it, though, you may be disappointed.

I am totally impressed with this stroller. I did a lot of research and I don’t regret my choice to purchase this one. I love it…my kids love it…basically everyone that sees it loves it.
    Features I love:
*The seats are padded enough that my 3 month old and 2-1/2 year old are comfy
*You can move the sun shade down completely in front of the sitting children if the sun is directly in front. I had no idea that it was this retractable.
*there is a mp3 speaker/hookup though it is rather poor quality as far as sound goes
*the large tires and pivot front wheel make for great steering
*the width of the stroller is not a challenge. It is a wider stroller, however I have not found a doorway in a public place I cannot fit through. I think this is because it is no wider than a wheelchair would be and most building accommodate that.
FOR THE PRICE this stroller rocks my world!

I bought this stroller about six months ago when my two toddlers (now 2 and 3.5) outgrew the lightweight Peg Perego double we had been using. It was easily less than half the price of other high-end double jogging strollers.

My favorite thing about it is that it’s SO easy to push, even with one hand and 70 pounds of kids inside. The large wheels run very smoothly. I’ve pushed both kids around for 10 hours at a time at Disneyland without any issues on my end.

It is a MUST to have the lock/unlock front wheel feature–there are times when you need to use one or the other. In general, I think the faster you push or the more unbalanced the two kids are in weight, the more you will need to lock the front wheel. Fantastic storage on three levels (upper, middle, lower) and I appreciate the two cup holders. The fact that the canopy can swivel all the way from top to bottom (unlike our Peg Perego’s) is also a huge plus.

There are two reasons I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5:
    1. I do not like having a stroller or carseat that has a covering which cannot be removed and washed in the washing machine. With two kids in this stroller every time it’s used, it gets messy to the point where wiping it with a sponge is completely useless.
    2. The wheel-to-wheel width seems to be just about 1/2 to 1 inch wider than a standard retail door frame. I’ve had to bypass certain stores simply because I couldn’t get the stroller inside the door! If it was slightly less wide (like the width of a wheelchair?), it would be perfect.

All in all, this is our fourth stroller purchase (single or double) and it’s right up there with our expensive Bugaboo Frog in terms of ease of use. We love it.

I bought this stroller for use on a family vacation at Disneyland and to jog with later. I have a 4 1/2 year old and a soon to be 3 year old. We were looking for something that we could cart them around in and take it on a plane. Having been to Disney before, I knew that a swivel wheel would be a big advantage in the crowds. Both kids fit very well in it and one of the things that I was very impressed with was the sun shade. It is adjustable so that you can keep the sun off of your kids’ faces no matter what time of day it is. That was a good selling point since most strollers’ sun shades are very poor (I can’t figure out why they don’t make them to actually work). The wheels come off of the stroller very easily which was also a plus when flying. We have an expensive single jogger that had the wheels/frame damaged from careless baggage handlers. This time I took the wheels off and everything was fine. There is a lot of storage in this stroller and the handle’s storage compartment is very nice. The stroller folds up easily.

The problem with this stroller is the front wheel. It wobbles so much that it was unusable in the swivel position. It will hsake the stroller excessively. I follwed the directions and took the action that they recommended but it did not help. We ended up having to lock the front wheel in place to use it. Unfortunately, when you jog with the wheel locked, it still wobbles too much. I spoke with customer service twice today and they are going to send me a new part to see if that corrects the problem. I hope that it does because this stroller has a lot of good features but it is worthless, in my opinion, if the front wheel continues to wobble so much. Be cautious when buying this stroller.
